Experienced Surgeon and Leader Dr. Jennifer Marti Takes the Helm as New Chief of Breast Surgery at Englewood Health

April 10, 2025 — Distinguished breast and endocrine surgical oncologist Jennifer Marti, MD, FACS, has been appointed chief of breast surgery and medical director of the Breast Cancer Program at The Lefcourt Family Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center at Englewood Health.

Dr. Marti’s main clinical interests are benign and malignant conditions of the breast, including abnormal breast biopsies, ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), invasive breast cancer, and women with an elevated risk of breast cancer (e.g., BRCA genetic mutation carriers). She is also interested in the overdiagnosis and overtreatment of breast disease and prioritizes shared decision-making. Her surgical expertise includes a full range of breast surgical oncologic procedures, including hidden-scar lumpectomy and nipple-sparing mastectomy, and newer approaches to DCIS using active surveillance and hormone therapy.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Marti to our breast cancer team,” says Cherif Boutros, MD, medical director of The Lefcourt Family Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center at Englewood Health. “Her extensive expertise and leadership in the field of breast surgery will help us continue to provide exceptional care for our patients and further strengthen Englewood Health’s position as a national leader at the forefront of providing breast health services, in New Jersey.”

Dr. Marti joins Englewood Health from Mount Sinai, where she was an attending surgeon and an associate professor of surgery. She also has served at Weill Cornell Medicine as site director of breast surgery at NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital and assistant professor of surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University.

Dr. Marti’s clinical research is focused on personalizing care for patients with breast cancer and benign breast disease, and approaches to improve the shared decision-making process for patients with cancer. Dr. Marti has published over 50 peer-reviewed research studies. She has served as site principal investigator for several cooperative group and industry-sponsored clinical trials and a national clinical trial on newer approaches to DCIS using active surveillance and hormone therapy (RECAST DCIS).

“As chief of breast surgery, I am proud to lead an outstanding multidisciplinary team that provides the most advanced options for patients in northern New Jersey,” says Dr. Marti. “Our goal is to offer patients the broadest set of treatment options to support them as they navigate their diagnosis, make informed choices, and receive the care that is right for them. Using the latest research, advanced surgical techniques, and a full range of evidence-based treatments, we are strengthening breast cancer care locally and improving quality of life and outcomes for patients in our communities.”

After receiving her MD from NYU Grossman School of Medicine, Dr. Marti did a general surgery residency at NYU Langone Medical Center, a breast surgical oncology fellowship at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, and an endocrine surgery fellowship at Yale School of Medicine. She is an associate professor of surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. In addition to English, Dr. Marti is fluent in Spanish.
