We Offer the Latest Technology and Treatment Guidelines
Patients at Englewood Hospital have access to the latest minimally invasive technology that makes the process of treatment and recovery as easy as possible for patients and families.
One example is our use of fine needle aspiration (FNA) in place of traditional biopsy methods. FNA is the fastest and easiest method of obtaining cells for analysis, involving minimal pain and eliminating the need for local anesthetics or stitches.
Our thyroid/parathyroid team also adheres to the latest guidelines issued by the American Thyroid Association, ensuring every patient receives state-of-the-art care and the best treatment options available today.
In many cases, our job as surgeons is to know when not to operate. We’re dedicated to educating our patients on all of their treatment options, so they understand their disease and can make decisions that are right for them.

Surgery for Cancerous or Benign Thyroid Conditions
Most commonly, thyroid surgery is performed to determine whether cancer is present or to remove known cancer from the thyroid. These procedures can entail the partial or total removal of the thyroid gland through a small incision on the neck. If there is concern the cancer has spread, the surrounding lymph nodes may also be removed at this time.
Parathyroid surgery is most often performed to treat benign tumors of the parathyroid glands. These tumors can cause high calcium levels in the blood, prompting abdominal pain, mood fluctuations, kidney stones, and osteoporosis. These benign tumors are also removed through a small incision in the neck.
