Top Overall Quality Score for Lung Cancer Surgery at Englewood Health
Englewood Health has earned 3-stars, the highest rating, for its patient care and lung cancer resection outcomes from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). This “better-than-expected” composite quality rating places Englewood Health among the elite for general thoracic surgery in the United States and Canada.
“This nationally respected quality score speaks to the commitment and advanced skills of our entire lung surgery team,” said Christos Stavropoulos, MD, director of thoracic oncology at The Lefcourt Family Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center and chief of thoracic surgery at Englewood Health. “Congratulations to our entire team on their collective excellence in delivering quality care for patients with lung cancer.”
A 3-star, “better-than-expected,” quality score indicates that Englewood Health’s performance on lung cancer resection is significantly higher than expected for its specific case-mix. In addition to the better-than-expected composite quality score, Englewood Health’s thoracic surgery team achieved 3-stars, “better-than-expected,” for absence of major complications. The latest analysis of data for lung cancer resection covers a 3-year period, from January 2022 through December 2024.
“The Society of Thoracic Surgeons congratulates STS National Database participants who have received this rating,” said David M. Shahian, MD, chair of the Task Force on Quality Measurement. “Participation in the Database and public reporting demonstrates a commitment to quality improvement in health care delivery and provides patients and their families with meaningful information to help them make informed decisions about health care.”
